A new fall jumper.

Last week, my best friend and his dad were so very kind and decided to let us ladies have a fun afternoon out. And so, they overcame with their dislike of shopping and took us to a fabric store! Miss T. and I had a great time, although the men were very happy once we were finished, because that meant we could go eat!

The fabric store was having a big sale, and I am in desperate need of some new woolen jumpers/dresses for this coming fall and winter. I managed to find two pretty woolens, and last night and this morning proceeded to chop one of the fabrics into rather small pieces. (One bonus of being short is that you can get more out of a piece of fabric!) I had three yards of each piece of wool, and I managed to get a nice fitted dress and the following skirt cut out of one 3 yard cut. Hooray!

This is more of a skirt than a jumper, but it turned out cute!

A close-up of the front. The material is 100% wool,
and when you look at it up close,ย it’s actually a black and tan plaid.
In the pictures it looks like a wide stripe.

Anyhow, I thought y’all would like to see the newest addition to my fall and winter wardrobe. I’m off to work on the other dress/jumper out of the same material, and I will be sure to post pictures as soon as it’s done! God Bless, and have a wonderful week!

An amazing surprise!

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all having a nice week. Mine has been absolutely delightful! A mix of fun, family, and friends, with some sewing and summer fun mixed in.

This past week I went to a car show, and what a surprise awaited me there! My best friend, (who will be nicknamed “Flathead,” after his favorite engine… :-D) surprised me with a set of rails for my pick-up truck! I was so surprised and shocked. ๐Ÿ˜€ What a completely unexpected surprise, and they fit perfectly! I’ve already gotten so many compliments on how good they look with the truck. Hooray!

Don’t they look great? And, as a side note…
the evening sky was stunning when I took this photo!

Next up: I have to stain them a nice dark color. That will happen soon, hopefully!

Oh, we had the funniest (and terrible!) thing happen this morning! Mom was pulling homemade muffins out of the oven, and we noticed the element in the bottom of the oven was glowing… but only in one section. Thinking that a little bit of muffin batter had fallen on it, we watched it in amazement as the element began to set off sparks. However, it was when they started looking like fireworks we realized something wasn’t quite right. Sparks flying around in the stove, we quickly yelled for Dad, who came inside, took one look at it, and turned off the breaker, so the stove wouldn’t continue to heat. Turns out the element in the stove had begun to arc-weld itself, because it has gone bad. *sigh* So, we have two options: 1) Buy a new stove (ouch! the $$$$), or 2) wait until a new element arrives. We opted for the second choice. ๐Ÿ˜› Hopefully, it will be here soon… until then, we’ll be doing a LOT of grilling. Or maybe I’ll lug all my open-fire cooking gear out, and set up a “camp kitchen” outside!

Relaxing the spring away…

And so looking forward to a delightful summer! So happy second day of summer! ๐Ÿ˜€ This past weekend has been spent spending time with a good friend, riding in old cars, hanging out, and simply having a wonderful time.ย

Yesterday I spent a little time in my lover-ly hammock, where a little friend joined me. After an hour of contemplation, she finally decided that it was okay to just hop in there with me, and so, she did.ย

The birds overhead were very interesting.

The book I’m holding is part of a series I’m reading, the Mitford Series. You simply MUST read them. Oh, they are wonderful! I have been stuck in them for days.ย

And, in other news, I finally got enough dandelions to try some dandelion-rose jelly. I spent the entire afternoon picking dandelions and then separating the yellow part of the dandelions from the green part. *sigh* That took a LONG time. It should be interesting, seeing as the infusion smells funny… hopefully, however, the infusion will be for color, and not for flavor… we shall see in the next few days! I’ll be sure to post more on that, especially if it turns out alright.ย

Well, I will head out for now… more things to do! God Bless, and have a wonderful evening!

Everyday life

Good evening, y’all! I hope you have had a good day. Mine has been pretty decent, just everyday life.ย

I managed to get my pick-up truck stuck in the snow today, which made for quite an interesting adventure! You should have seen us… me behind the wheel, my grandfather and mother pushing. ๐Ÿ™‚ Pop-pop tried to get it out without pushing, but the wheels just kept digging deeper! ๐Ÿ™‚ Needless to say, it was hilarious!ย

This afternoon I had a fun spur-of-the-moment photography project… I thought y’all might like to see this one, I was pleased with the results!ย

Total Random-ness:
I’ve decided that I need to write “YOU ARE HERE” across my forehead, just in case I forget where I am (which happens more often than you might think!). Then I would know where I am in relation to everything around me. (Which helps when reading maps…) ๐Ÿ˜€ Those who know me well will understand! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Well, I’m officially chilled to the bone and tired. I’m going to get comfy, take out my contacts, and cozy up by the fire. Stay warm, and God Bless!

Hello and good morning, everyone! Here I sit, at the computer, all ready for the day. I’m looking forward to running errands for Mom, since I want to show my pick-up and her new sneakers off to the world!ย

I’m beginning work on a new photography assignment, which could prove to be very fun! I’m going to find a phrase, quote, or poem, that I think is neat, and take a picture to match or somehow correspond with the saying! I’ve been looking through my quote book for ideas. My quote book is a lined notebook I keep handy, and whenever I find a new quote or saying I like, I grab my quote book and write it down! So last night I went through a book of poems and saying and wrote a few more into my quote book. (Which is fast filling up!)ย

The following is appropriate, considering I’m still suffering from the left-overs of my cold!ย

My Nose, Dorothy Aldis

It doesn’t breathe;ย
ย It doesn’t smell;
It doesn’t feel
So very well.

I am discouraged
With my nose:
The only thing it
Does is blows.ย

I found that very amusing. ๐Ÿ™‚ And here’s one of my new favorites, that I think will be a good one for a matching photo:

“Common sense is genius in homespun.”
~Alfred North Whitehead~

And yet another one, in honor of (and in warning to!!!!) several of my pyrotechnic guy friends:ย

Little Willie

Willie saw some dynamite,
Couldn’t understand it quite;
Curiosity seldom pays:
It rained Willie seven days.ย

Okay, may I say that the first time I read that I got a side-stitch from laughing? I REALLY want to use this one for my photography project, so I could use ideas! Any ideas, from those creative, artsy, crafty, and photography oriented people out there? ๐Ÿ™‚ The photo doesn’t have to match it exactly… and since Dynamite is hard to come by, and I’d rather not have it rain anybodyย for any length of time, I’ll need lots of fun and creative ideas!ย

The detail from my last photography project, where I tried to capture the smoke from a blown-out match.

So now y’all will have to use your imagination, and help me create one about poor Little Willie! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks in advance for your ideas, God Bless, and have a wonderful day!ย

White Walls and Un-Bowling!

Hello everyone! Well, it has been an eventful two days here on the farm! Yesterday I had two friends come over because we were going bowling, and we had quite an adventure! We went to the bowling alley, and it was PACKED! So we put our name in, and decided to head to Dairy Queen for a bite to eat. Well, then we had to get a part for my friend’s Falcon, and by the time we got back, we had taken too long, and there was a waiting list of 5 different groups before we get a lane! We figured at that point that waiting was for the birds, and we called in pizzas and picked them up for dinner. We finally headed home, and played cards until WAAAY past our bedtime! ๐Ÿ™‚ It was grand fun, and I had a blast.ย

This morning I woke up really early… partly due to a stuffy nose, and partly due to an overdose of caffeine the night before. However, it was lovely this morning, a little rainy, and only slightly chilly, so I bundled up in blankets and sat on the front porch. (I’ve decided I need a rocking chair. Anyone know where I can get one?)ย

This afternoon, after church, Dad and I went to get new tires that a new friend graciously offered to give me! Yep, you read right… a set of 5 white-wall tires, basically brand new, and he even put them on for free! ๐Ÿ™‚ I think they look great…ย

Don’t you agree?

I’d say my truck has been pampered this week! Last Sunday my grandfather gave her a good greasing, ’cause she desperately needed it. Now with the addition of the new tires, she drives like a dream! Plus, the white-walls look fantastic! Now I’m starting to feel the need for caffeine. It might be time for tea! God bless, and everyone have a wonderful Sunday evening! ๐Ÿ™‚
