Some Very Special Gifts!

This weekend has been a glorious one! Lovely weather and lots of fun. The yard sale was a complete success, and I managed to sell quite a lot of my old treasures. I was able to spend practically the whole weekend with my best friend (and sweetheart)!

This weekend was also my birthday, and my best friend gave me a complete surprise! We have been out antiquing together several times and I had seen a couple nice sets of vintage spice jars… so guess what he gave me as one of my presents?

My very own lovely set of spice containers.
With red lids
and a red shelf!

So, part of my day was spent cleaning out the spice jars, all the while making sure I don’t get them wet on the outside and have the paper labels fall off. Aren’t they just lovely? Oh, the grand kitchen messes I will make using these treasures…

My best friend’s parents also gave me a delightful (and FUN) surprise! I got an adorable vintage toaster that actually works! I tried it out almost as soon as I got it! ๐Ÿ˜€ You have to flip the toast over half-way through the toasting process, though. Otherwise it will only brown on one side! It has a little bell on the underside, that “dings” as it heats up. I have discovered that three “dings” per side makes the perfect piece of toast.

Toast, anyone?

And for fun…

“There was an Old Man of the Coast,
Who placidly sat on a post;
But when it was cold,
he reliquished his hold,
And called for some hot buttered toast.

Many Happy Returns, Dr. Seuss!

Will you all join me in celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday? C’mon, how many Seuss fans are there out there? ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve read Dr. Seuss books since I was a little girl… and now I get to read them, in all their amusing silly-ness, to the little people I babysit! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

My favorite book is “Are You My Mother?” My favorite quote from the entire book:ย “You are not my mother. You are a SNORT!”ย I originally discovered it was Dr. Seuss’ birthday when I went on ThinkExist to find some quotes for a project… needless to say, I’ve spent a few extra moments this morning looking at Dr. Seuss quotes. Many have been added to my quote book, and I thought I’d share a few more here with you! ๐Ÿ™‚ And in honor of the Dr. Seuss books, the quote of the week (on the sidebar) is a new favorite quote! ๐Ÿ™‚

“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.”

“Think left and think right think low and think high. Oh the things you can think up if only you try!”

And this last one is especially for myself… and my height. (Or, rather, the lack thereof! :-D)

“A person’s a person no matter how small.”

Today we’re pretty much snowed in. (Which is not always a bad thing!) It’s not really that we have tons of snow, there’s just enough to keep my family inside, and we haven’t any place better to be! I need to work on a few projects, and I’ve been merrily crocheting away since yesterday. I have a few Easter Egg ornaments done, and as soon as they are starched I’ll take some pictures to share! I wanted to do a flat easter egg ornament, but couldn’t find a pattern to suit me… so, I ended up creating my own. They’ve turned out pretty cute, too!ย

Well, I’m off to take care of the morning chores and tidy-ing up the house a little! God Bless, and have a wonderful snow day! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Newest Project!

Yes, my newest project is complete! (Now I have another one started!) ๐Ÿ™‚ However, I thought all of my sewing readers might enjoy a few pictures!ย

A top view of my newly completed stays. They are made of linen, boned with wood, the boning casings are done in brown woolen thread, and all hand-sewn! The eyelets were done using my new awl, a lovely tool my parents bought me for my birthday.ย

The leather binding around the stays… a work-out for the fingers!

Neat and tidy eyelets.

And last, but not least, the inside view.ย

Well, that should be enough for now! When I finish my newest project, I’ll be sure to post pictures. I may be out for a while, though, as I’m going to be able to visit my sister and brother-in-love, and meet myย newest nephew!ย

God bless! Have a great weekend!

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.”

Hello everyone! Getting ready for a crazy, yet wonderful weekend… it’s been nuts around here! ๐Ÿ™‚ Because we’re going to be away for my birthday, I was blessed by a few unexpected goodies from my grandparents. Yay! I am in love with my new coverlet made by Family Heirloom Weavers… it’s a Civil War pattern. And it’s GORGEOUS! Thanks, Nana and Pop-pop!

ย I think the pattern is called Cat Paws and Snail Trails… or something like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally finished all my sewing for the upcoming events we’re doing… two shortgowns, a bedjacket, and a pair of newly mended breeches later, you’d think I would have gained some sense and decided to take a break from sewing! But, I already have a few more idea up my sleeve. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I need to go… there’s lots more prep to do! Mush dough, pie crusts… Have a blessed day, everyone!ย

(Oh, BTW… go make sure to keep an eye on the Girl-Talk girls, as Janelle is expecting a new little blessing!)ย

“The Lord is exalted; for he dwelleth on high; he hath filled Zion with judgement and righteousness.ย And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the Lord is his treasure.”
