Treasures!

Hello friends!

This has been a delightful weekend, spending it with my best friend, and getting to do lots of relaxing, movie-watching, talking, laughing, and lots of goofing off! And now it’s Monday. To me, Mondays are days to get back into the routine of the week, to relax, get some work done, and just generally start the new week off on the right foot. 🙂 (I actually don’t dislike Mondays!)

I thought I would share with you a few treasures I’ve found over the past couple of weeks… a few new goodies to add to my rather large hopechest collection! 🙂

This was actually found a few months ago for $3,
while out yard-saling with my best friend!

This comfy treasure was found just the other day for $35.
It will eventually have a slip-cover on it,
I’m not too crazy about the blue flowers. 🙂

And last, but most certainly not least…

I have a new iron! Or rather, a new old iron. I currently use my great-
grandmother’s travel iron from the 1940’s, and it’s the best iron
I’ve ever used! I just found the exact same iron for $8 at an antique store,
and I am absolutely thrilled to have another.
At last, Mom and I no longer have to fight over the iron… 🙂

Feeling green…

Hello, folks!

I thought I’d share today’s project with you all. I started this in the early afternoon, and it was the EASIEST dress I’ve ever made! Remember this green plaid tablecloth? I found it at a yard sale for $2.50… combine that with a cute pattern from ebay (I think it was $3), and a bit of bias binding from my great-grandmother’s sewing stuff, and I have an adorable new 60’s style sundress!

The perfect dress to go biking in.

An out-take… I’m actually out of focus, while everything behind me in in focus! Whoops! Oh well… it shows the bow on the top of the shoulder.

And now I must be off… more sewing projects are planned, so stay tuned! 🙂 God Bless, and enjoy the evening!

Thrifty Alterations…

Hello everyone!

This has been a good day, had a morning out, and thenI got to come home and get quite a bit of work done sewing today! I FINALLY finished the slip-cover to my chair (which has taken me… well, too long to remember). All I had to finish was the seat cushion, and yet it sat there for months. Yellow slipcover, faded blue flowered non-matching cushion.

I also mended a cute dress that I tucked in the mending pile… umm… last summer. *sigh* I usually just never think about mending things, but I found it stashed in a cupboard and realized I just had to fix it so I could wear it!

In other news, yesterday I made an “Ugly Bag” for my best friend’s graduation gift. (She said she liked it, so that’s what she got! Better be careful what you say you like…) It turned out a lot nicer than my first attempt, and a few more may be coming out of the rest of the coverlet soon.

The slip-cover, all finished. The blanket is for the cat, who likes to sleep here and gets black fur all over it!

The dress is one I bought on sale somewhere. I had ripped a small hole beside the split, and used this cute eyelet trim found last year at an antique show to cover up the mended area. Hooray!

I found this sweet skirt at the thrift store yesterday, and it fits perfectly! It has a few stains on it, but they are in the perfect place for a vintage patchy flower. Or maybe a few retro granny squares… the possibilities are endless.

So, I finally get one thing mended, and I buy more to put in the pile! Oh well. 😛

Vintage find at a yard sale…

Hello everyone! I thought I’d share my latest “find,” uncovered this morning at a yard sale by my Nana’s expert eye. I’ve been looking for a vintage cake saver for a while now, and I finally got one, for much less than what I would have payed for at an antique store! Hooray!

DSC_0002

With a little cleaning, it will be as good as new. Only $4!

I love yard sales.

In other news, this little website may be going under a complete make-over soon. I know, I keep doing that, but I’m still trying to decide what I need on here! I have a new project up my sleeve that may take a while to complete, but it’s on my “to-do” list, so hopefully it will get done sooner, rather than later.

It will, however, involve taste-testing some favorite recipes. Any takers? 😉

A Long Day (Or, our weekend, part 3)

Here’s the 3rd installment of last weekend’s events! This one is a bit short, due to tired-ness after the  long day, so I’ll be posting some other things as well. 🙂 Click on the links below for the first two parts.

Part 1
Part 2

A long day today. Fun, though! I cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even got to play hammered dulcimer with the musicians! The violinist/cellist let me play her cello… I would like one of those someday! Finally packed up and headed out to dinner, and enjoyed a nice meal out. Hooray for day 1!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, as you can obviously tell, I was pretty tired… that was short! 😉 However, there’s lots of other things going on now that I’m home, and I’d like to show you a few!
Yesterday we girls snuck out of the house to go antiquing, and I came home with a few more treasures! (What else is new?) A nice white linen tablecloth with a few stains that I plan on cutting up into something (more on that when I get around to that project), and a whole basket of linens to do something with! My two favorite treasures of the afternoon were a yellow and white linen tablecloth, and a tomato slicer from the 40’s or 50’s that’s never been used. Not a spot of rust! When I get in an antique shop, no matter how much I tell myself I don’t need anything… my “hopechesting” tendencies come out, and I inevitably come home with a treasure I know I must save for the future.
My newfound treasures.
In other news, while helping with dinner, I came up with a quick, and more energy-efficient way of melting butter! We were making spaghetti, and needed to make a butter sauce for some garlic bread. Instead of microwaving the butter, I put it in a dish and rested it on top of the spaghetti pot, right were the steam comes out. No need to turn on the microwave, and the butter melted just fine. Hooray!
Well, I need to go and do other things… busy day ahead! God Bless, and have a wonderful day.
And we have… a few winners!
Hello everyone!
It has been a busy, yet delightful week for me. How about you? I really enjoyed your comments on the give-away post. Such wonderful things to enjoy about spring! Since it was a small give-away, (and since I’m think the ladies participating won’t mind in the least) I’ve decided to give one kit to each of you!
I’ll be sending it/in contact with each of you very soon! 🙂
In other news, I had a delightful weekend at the store (where I threatened Mom not to sell my Courageous Lion.), helping with the Open House. Those Daffodil and Violet pins in my shop went out like hotcakes, and I have a few orders for more! 🙂
The sun is shining today, and it looks like a very promising day. I’m hoping to get in my garden and see what’s happening with my plants, and pull a few weeds.
No pictures to share with this post, but be sure to go over and check out my sister’s blog, where she is giving away FREE photo sessions!!!!!! If anyone is living in her area, be sure to contact her!
 With that being said, I need to get a move-on, and do something constructive! 🙂 God Bless, and have a wonderful day, everyone!
Lovely evening skies and a morning rain.
Hello friends!
Yes, I have been absent, partly because I wanted to leave the give-away post at the top of my blog, and partly because I’ve been delightfully busy. Yesterday was a big to-do at the store, involving all kinds of crafters, and that will continue through today too. I bought a BEAUTIFUL rocker that I fell in love with, which I will place in my “hopechest house” (my grandmother lets me store furniture in her old house).
I pulled over the other day on my way home to take this lovely picture… I just couldn’t resist, with the color of the sky being so pretty!
dsc_0001
Oh, the beauty of evening skies!
This morning I awoke to pouring (and I mean POURING!) rain. Spring rain. The type that makes you want to walk barefooted outside when it’s still wet, and makes the air smell so good. Of course, the cat wasn’t too happy about it… she kept begging to go out, and when we opened the door, she would look up and beg us with her eyes to “make it stop!” However, she decided that it was better to live with the weather than to stay cooped up inside, and her perch of the morning has been the electric meter.
dsc_00051
“Please, make it STOP!”
I see blue skies beginning to peek out from behind the clouds, which is a very good sign! And the good thing is that I don’t have to water my garden this morning. 🙂
I haven’t forgotten about the give-away, either! More information will be posted on Monday, I promise! 🙂 God Bless, and everyone enjoy this lovely morning!
I’m in Love…
With Poladriod, that is! I found this just the other day, and today, for the first time, downloaded the free application and tested it out! Talk about fun!!! Now I can have polaroid pictures whenever I want… without the fuss of having to photoshop them! Seriously, you NEED to go check it out, and download it! It’s FREE!
And because I think it’s just the most awesome thing, y’all have to see my first Poladroid picture:
Aren’t clothes on the clothesline just the best ever?
Cool, huh? Anyways, everybody needs to go check it out. And you can be sure that you’ll see more polaroid pictures on here!
In other news, you’ve probably noticed some changes on my blog. I’ve wanted to re-do it for a while, and though it may take time, the graphics are getting closer to what I would like. Bear with me, I’m terrible at editing CSS! 😉
I’ve been crocheting like crazy lately, but I’ll leave you in suspense as to what and why. 🙂 There will be a good post on that soon, I promise!
Seeing as it’s nearly midnight, and I’ll need to be getting up early tomorrow, I suppose I’ll hit the sack! Have a good night, everyone! God Bless!
Happiness In a Can…
Rather, happiness IS a can! 😀 A watering can, that is. I found this while out shopping today, and seeing as I needed a watering can, and this one was red… how could I turn it down?
dsc_00091
Come now, don’t you agree?
In other news, I had medium size cup o’ joe from WaWa on our way home at 7:00 tonight. Not smart. It’s nearly midnight. I’m still awake. WIDE awake. And now I must go to bed, so I can get up tomorrow morning.
Busy day!
Well, this day has turned out MUCH busier than I had expected! I ran to the grocery store for Mom, and was very happy that most of what I bought was taking advantage of the sales at Giant!  Then I was excited because I found a movie my family loves at Giant, and I knew I could print out a 2 dollar off coupon at home, and the movie would be $3.99 when all was done! That’s nifty, don’t you think?
I’m probably the only girl who gets excited by coupons. Seriously, I print coupons out on the internet, get e-mails from different companies when they have sales… 😀 Has anyone used Coupons.com? Check out the link, it’s a fantastic place to fin coupons for those brand name items you like to use. Just sign up, and they send you e-mails weekly with the latest coupons, and most grocery stores will accept them. I’ve even been able to find coupons for my diary-free products on there, which is really nice (considering how expensive dairy-free items can be!).
So I’m finally home, after visiting two grocery stores, and now I have to do some cooking. I also got a last-minute call from a Mom wanting an impromtu “date night” with her hubby, so I’m off to that this evening.
dsc_0076
And, because I like to include one picture in a blog post, I thought you might like to see this photo I took right after out last snowfall. I’ve really enjoyed being able to improve my photography, and already I’ve been happier with my pictures!
God Bless, and hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be back next week!
